◆縁の下の舞 En no shita no mai.
- 解釈：人目につかないところで、他人を支える苦労や努力をすること。また、そのような人。ここでの「舞」とは、陰暦二月二十二日に大坂の天王寺で、聖徳太子聖霊会に行われた舞楽をさす。 舞台の上にあがらず、人に見えないところで舞うことから、表舞台に立つことはないが、陰で人知れず支えている者のことをいう。
- Literal：Dance under the rim.
- Interpretation：It is making the difficulties supporting others, and an effort in the place which is not conspicuous. Unsung hero.
- 類義：縁の下の掃除番。縁の下の力持ち。陰の松の奉公。簀の子の下の舞。闇の独り舞い。
